GUEST SPEAKER – GREG DISCH
Macro Photography - “A short course in taking really cool pictures of things up close”
This will be a short course in which you will learn the basics of macro or close-up. We will learn about specific macro photography equipment--also ways to get into macro photography with a minimal amount of equipment. We will learn about macro lenses, extension tubes, close-up lenses, and other specialized items. We will learn how to maximize depth of field in macro subjects. Greg began his photography career in 1977 with a 35mm SLR and pursued it vigorously as a hobby for several years before joining a local camera club “The Photography Alliance of the Fort Smith Art Center”. He did well in the contests and became known as an excellent photographer in the area and began doing some freelance work, wedding, |
portraits, ball teams, etc. He found himself taking pictures of all the things he did not want to photograph and finding all his weekends taken. In 1990 he had a career change and became involved in the computer business, and time for taking pictures disappeared. During the next 15 years he was totally immersed in computers and network technology. January of 2005 he decided to renew his photography interest, and by this time digital was the way to go and was now one giant leap ahead with his computer expertise. He is putting to use his computer knowledge and his photographic knowledge to teach and support digital photography.
Greg now shares his knowledge of photography and technology through classes and workshops. His work has been published in books, magazines, calendars, websites, and as fine art prints. Greg publishes a website (www.gregdisch.com) featuring numerous "How To" articles, "Photographic Destinations" and an online gallery of over 20,000 images.
