Photo editing software compared
One of our members, Paul Winberg, will be teaching two Lightroom classes--one on August 13 and continued on August 20. Paul is very skilled with this program and has recently done further research because of so much talk about switching from Adobe and the cost of Lightroom/Photoshop increasing. Regarding the cost increase, that is not the case unless you want to have Cloud storage. The regular monthly subscription of Lightroom Classic remains at $9.99; the only increase will be for those who use the Cloud for storage.
Some of you may be on the mailing list for software instructor Matt Kloskowki, and Paul said that he has bought a few tutorial courses from him in the past . Paul recently received an email from Kloskowski announcing his new tutorial series entitled "Are you Thinking of Making the Switch from Adobe? Read what Paul says about this:
"This is a FREE download with his views of the relative merits and shortcomings of the major photo editing programs - as compared to Lightroom (and to some degree, Photoshop). In order to download it, you must click on the link, put in your first and last name and email and then proceed as if to purchase the program. Since it is free, you do not have to put in credit card or other payment info.
"The download consists of 9 videos totaling about 2 hours of viewing time. The major programs covered are: OnOne, Capture One, Luminar, Affinity and DxO. Another 6 or so, programs with less capability are briefly covered, including Photoshop Elements. The videos are broken down by which app is being discussed, so you can just look at the ones of most interest if desired.
"I found it to be a reasonably fair comparison, and in particular got some good tips about what to look for when comparing apps.
"As a bottom line summary, he clearly is convinced that LR/PS is the best out there for his type of photography (landscapes). The other programs may offer some special tools for certain types of photo work (e.g. portraits), but in general the other suppliers are trying to catch up to the full feature set offered by LR."
